약 3개월 전 세 번째 은퇴 선언을 했던 코너 맥그리거가 복귀 의사를 밝혔다. 하지만 이번 컴백 스테이지는 UFC 옥타곤이 아닌 사각의 링이 될 전망이다. 코너 맥그리거는 2017년에도 플로이드 메이웨더와 복싱 룰로 겨뤄 패배한 바 있다.
이번에 코너 맥그리거가 싸울 상대는 바로 8 체급을 석권하고 WBA 웰터급 챔피언으로 은퇴한 전설적 복서 매니 파퀴아오다. 코너 맥그리거는 본인의 트위터를 통해 중동에서 매니 파퀴아오와 복싱 룰로 맞붙을 것이라고 발표했으며, 그의 매니저도 실제 매니 파퀴아오 측과 구체적 일정을 조율 중이라고 밝혔다. 경기 시점은 올해 12월 혹은 내년 1월이 될 것으로 알려졌다.
코너 맥그리거는 또한 UFC 회장 데이나 화이트와의 대화 내용을 공개하며 MMA 무대로의 복귀는 없을 것이라고 다시 한번 못박았다.
